Den Opfern eine (Lebens-)Geschichte. Biografische Forschungen zu den 360 „Euthanasie“ Opfern der Heil- und Pflegeanstalt Hall in Tirol

Project

Description

Within the framework of the National Socialist "euthanasia", a total of 707 mentally or mentally handicapped women, men, adolescents and children were deported from various institutions in the Reich region Tirol-Vorarlberg between 1940 and 1942 and murdered in Hartheim and Niedernhart. 360 of these murder victims alone were deported from the then Hall in Tirol sanatorium and nursing home, whose successor institution is today's Hall in Tirol Provincial Hospital - with its two departments for psychiatry and psychotherapy A and B. The victims are known by name, but what is missing so far is a corresponding memorial sign for the murdered patients. Such a memorial is now being planned. The victims should not only be given a name, but also, if possible, a face and a life story. As a basis for this, a short biography will therefore be compiled for each of the 360 victims within the framework of the project applied for, with details of their place of birth, place of origin, last place of residence, status, date and place of deportation. In addition, for about 40 patients, representative and exemplary in-depth life stories will be researched and written down. This requires extensive biographical research on the individual murdered patients. The written biographies will be available to visitors in the Historical Archive of the Provincial Hospital and also at an information terminal at the memorial itself. The compilation of the 40 life stories does not represent a completed process, but is intended to encourage the provision of further biographies for the public after the project has been completed by family members, memorial initiatives and school projects, in order to keep the memory of the individual victims alive. In this sense, an inventory and photographic recording of already existing commemorative signs in the places of birth, home and last residence will also be made. These existing regional remembrance signs will also be made visible in the individual victim biographies.
