More than 80,000 young people throughout Austria have taken part in the civil courage training courses of the Mauthausen Committee of Austria (MKÖ) in recent years. Since the beginning of the training sessions, the contents, exercises and methods have been adapted again and again based on the experiences of the trainers in the sessions and adapted to the needs of the young people. An additional focus is on bullying and moral courage on the internet. In addition, the Mauthausen Committee of Austria develops materials for teachers on the topic of moral courage on the Internet. By training moral courage, among other things, young people's possibilities for action are expanded and their self-confidence is strengthened. In addition to the theoretical examination of moral courage in authoritarian and highly repressive systems, especially during the Nazi era, the trainings also use examples of rescuers and helpers to explain why people decided to help other people despite the extreme conditions. Through the confrontation with people who showed civil courage during the Nazi era, an arc is drawn into the present of the young people.

Mehr als 80.000 Jugendliche in ganz Österreich haben in den letzten Jahren an den Zivilcourage-Trainings des Mauthausen Komitee Österreichs (MKÖ) teilgenommen. Seit Beginn der Trainings werden die Inhalte, Übungen und Methoden immer wieder auf Basis der Erfahrungen der TrainerInnen in den Trainings adaptiert und an die Bedürfnisse der Jugendlichen angepasst. Ein zusätzlicher Schwerpunkt ist auf Mobbing und Zivilcourage im Internet ausgerichtet. Zusätzlich werden vom MKÖ Materialien für LehrerInnen zum Thema Zivilcourage im Internet ausgearbeitet. Durch das Trainieren von Zivilcourage werden unter anderem Handlungsmöglichkeiten von jungen Menschen erweitert und ihre Selbstsicherheit gestärkt. Zusätzlich zur theoretischen Auseinandersetzung mit Zivilcourage in autoritären und hoch repressiven Systemen, speziell in der Zeit des Nationalsozialismus, wird in den Trainings auch an Beispielen von RetterInnen und HelferInnen vermittelt, warum sich Menschen trotz der extremen Rahmenbedingungen entschieden haben, anderen Menschen zu helfen. Durch die Auseinandersetzung mit Menschen, die in der Zeit des Nationalsozialismus zivilen Mut zeigten, wird ein Bogen in die Gegenwart der Jugendlichen gespannt.
