In May 1947, survivors of the women’s concentration camp founded the Austrian Camp Community Ravensbrück. Now they were taking a look back at the last 60 years. The association considered and considers its main tasks to be the representation of the interests of survivors and their families, the fields of political and historical education, remembrance of the crimes of the National Socialist Regime, the maintenance of the camp community and international networking with similar organizations. Form the outset, the Camp Community considered itself to be a politically independent association of former inmates of the Ravensbrück concentration camp.

Im Mai 1947 gründeten Überlebende des Frauenkonzentrationslagers die Österreichische Lagergemeinschaft Ravensbrück (ÖLGR). 60 Jahre danach wird zurückgeblickt. Der Verein sah und sieht seine Aufgaben primär in der Interessensvertretung für Überlebende und deren Angehörige, im Bereich der politischen und historischen Bildung, im Gedenken an die Verbrechen der nationalsozialistischen Herrschaft, in der Erhaltung der Lagergemeinschaft sowie in der internationalen Vernetzung mit ähnlichen Organisationen. Die Lagergemeinschaft verstand sich von Anfang an als eine politische überparteiliche Vereinigung ehemaliger Häftlinge des KZ Ravensbrück.
