Before the Second World War, there were 120 Roma settlements in Burgenland. During the war, the Roma and Sinti were banished, deported and murdered. It is very important to the Roma to have a memorial for the dead and the victims of National Socialism who have no gravestones. To provide them a place where they lived before their deportation. The memorial plaque project has been running since 2006. Now a memorial site was to be erected in the Kleinbachselten cemetery for the extended community, in which there were three Roma settlements before 1938 (Kleinbachselten, Großbachselten and Rohrbach an der Teich). The memorial was unveiled in October 2008.

Vor dem 2. Weltkrieg gab es im Burgenland 120 Roma-Siedlungen. Während des Krieges wurden die Roma und Sinti vertrieben, deportiert und ermordet. Es ist ein wichtiges Anliegen der Roma, den Toten und den Opfern des Nationalsozialismus, die keine Grabstätte haben, ein Gedenken zu setzen. Ihnen dort einen Platz einzuräumen, wo sie vor ihrer Verschleppung gelebt haben. Seit dem Jahr 2006 ist das Gedenktafelprojekt im Gange. Nun soll für die Großgemeinde, in der es vor 1938 drei Roma-Siedlungen - Kleinbachselten, Großbachselten und Rohrbach an der Teich - gab, am Friedhof Kleinbachselten eine Gedenkstätte errichtet werden. Die Enthüllung der Gedenkstätte ist für September 2008 vorgesehen.
