Yiddish Culture Festival

For the second time, the Jewish Institute for Adult Education organized in 2008 the “Yiddish Culture Festival” and a project succeeding the “Yiddish Theater Week”. The star guest of the festival this year was Vienna-born Theodore Bikel. After the Anschluss in 1938, Bikel had to leave Vienna with his family. He began his acting career as a teenager in Israel which he continued in London and the USA. Bikel also performed as a musician and singer, Yiddish always seeming important to him, as is demonstrated by numerous recordings. Theodor Bikel performed on two evenings. The Yiddish Culture Festival took place from 24-30 November 2008 in the “Theater Center Forum” in Vienna.

Das Jüdische Institut für Erwachsenenbildung organisiert heuer bereits zum zweiten Mal 'Jiddische Kulturtage' als Nachfolgeprojekt der 'Jiddischen Theaterwoche'. Stargast der diesjährigen Jiddischen Kulturtage wird der in Wien geborene Theodore Bikel sein. Bikel musste nach dem 'Anschluss' 1938 mit seiner Familie Wien verlassen. Er begann bereits als Teenager in Israel seine Schauspielkarriere, die er später in London und in den USA fortsetzte. Daneben trat Bikel als Musiker und Sänger auf, wobei ihm das Jiddische stets wichtig erschien, wie zahlreiche Plattenaufnahmen zeigen. Theodore Bikel wird zwei Abende gestalten. Die jiddischen Kulturtage werden vom 24. – 30. November 2008 im 'Theater Center- Forum' in Wien stattfinden.
