Erich Zeisel’s correspondence with the exiled world of art and culture, for the most part unpublished, is presented to posterity in this book. His friend Hilde Spiel – to whom he said goodbye with the words “byebye Hilde Sarah, greetings from Erich Israel” when leaving Paris for London – forms a constant in the book, around whom a glamorous scenery of letter-writers is formed. Exchanges with persons such as Richard Stöhr, Ernst Toch, Erich Wolfgang Korngold, Hans Kafka, Hugo F. Königsgarten, Alfred Farau, Alexandre Tansman or Darius Milhaud reflects on questions on the problems of exile as well as views on art, daily politics and day-to-day gossip. On the other hand, the letters sent from Vienna by Erich Zeisel's parents, who were murdered in Treblinka, describe a parallel world.

Eric Zeisels größtenteils unveröffentlichte Korrespondenz mit der exilierten Kunst- und Kulturwelt wird in diesem Buch der Nachwelt präsentiert. Die Freundin Hilde Spiel – 1939 von Paris Richtung London mit „Servus Hildesarah es grüsst Dich Erichisrael“ verabschiedet – bildet eine Konstante, um die herum sich eine schillernde Szenerie an Briefschreibern auftut. Der Austausch mit Personen wie Richard Stöhr, Ernst Toch, Erich Wolfgang Korngold, Hans Kafka, Hugo F. Königsgarten, Alfred Farau, Alexandre Tansman oder Darius Milhaud reflektiert Fragen zur Exilproblematik genauso wie Kunstbetrachtung, Tagespolitisches oder Alltagstratsch.
