The book project deals with the representation of forced flight, migration and their effects from a micro-historical perspective. The changing migration history of the paternal grandparents of Pablo Rudich from Czernowitz serves as an example. The tracing begins with the exploration of their youth in Chernivtsi and continues with their flight to Vienna after the outbreak of World War I in the autumn of 1914. The focus is on their situation during the war in the capital of the empire and the difficulties afterwards in obtaining Austrian citizenship as East Jewish refugees and in building a new existence in Vienna. The treatise then takes a look at their existence as presumably assimilated Jews in Vienna, taking into account an increasingly anti-Semitic mood in the 1920s and 1930s, and ends with their forced emigration to Uruguay in August 1938.

Das Buchprojekt behandelt die Darstellung von erzwungener Flucht, Migration und deren Auswirkung aus einer mikrohistorischen Perspektive. Als Beispiel dient die wechselhafte Migrationsgeschichte der Großeltern väterlicherseits von Pablo Rudich aus Czernowitz. Das Nachzeichnen beginnt mit der Erkundung ihrer Jugendjahre in Czernowitz und setzt sich mit der Flucht nach Wien nach Ausbruch des Ersten Weltkriegs im Herbst 1914 fort. Im Fokus stehen ihre Situation während des Krieges in der Reichshauptstadt und die Schwierigkeiten danach, als ostjüdische Flüchtlinge die österreichische Staatsbürgerschaft zu bekommen und in Wien eine neue Existenz aufbauen zu können. Die Abhandlung wirft anschließend einen Blick auf ihr Dasein als vermutlich assimilierte Juden in Wien unter Beachtung einer zunehmend antisemitistischen Stimmung in den 1920er- und 1930er-Jahren und endet mit der erzwungenen Ausreise nach Uruguay im August 1938.
