Things and the stories they tell about the people who once collected them, held them in their hands, passed them on and found them again are the focus of the exhibition at the Jewish Museum Vienna. The exhibition deals with the fate of the Ephrussi family, originally from Russia, and their voluntary and involuntary journeys between Russia, Austria, France, Great Britain, Spain, the USA, Mexico, Japan, and other countries. Using selected objects, documents and pictures, the economic and social development of a European Jewish family is traced. Their descendants are now scattered throughout the world as a result of flight and expulsion during the Nazi era.

Dinge und die Geschichten, die sie über die Menschen erzählen, die sie einst gesammelt, in Händen gehalten, weitergegeben und wiedergefunden haben, stehen im Mittelpunkt der Ausstellung im Jüdischen Museum Wien. Die Ausstellung behandelt das Schicksal der ursprünglich aus Russland stammenden Familie Ephrussi und ihre freiwilligen und unfreiwilligen Reisen zwischen Russland, Österreich, Frankreich, Großbritannien, Spanien, den USA, Mexiko, Japan und anderen Ländern. Anhand von ausgewählten Objekten, Dokumenten und Bildern wird der wirtschaftliche und gesellschaftliche Werdegang einer europäisch-jüdischen Familie nachgezeichnet, deren Nachfahren heute durch Flucht und Vertreibung während der NS-Zeit in der ganzen Welt verstreut leben.
