Tuvia Rübner is an important modern poet. Born in Pressburg in 1924 as Kurt Rübner, he grew up with the German language and was the only one in his family to survive the Holocaust; at the very last minute he succeeded in emigrating to Palestine with a group of youths. He wrote his first poems in a Kibbutz in Merchavia, initially in German and later in Hebrew. Tuvia Rübner is not only highly respected as a poet in Israel but is also known as a photographer and professor emeritus for comparative literature studies at the University of Haifa. The video portrait commences with the award of the Theodor Kramer Prize on 16 May 2008 in Krems. The film accompanies Tuvia Rübner on the subsequent reading tour to Vienna, Bratislava and the surrounding places from his childhood and youth, Salzburg, Munich and Baden Wüttemburg to Israel. The film deals with the question “how pliable is man? How fast does he forget? And how long does it take before he has to face himself again in a renewed catastrophe?

Tuvia Rübner ist ein bedeutender Lyriker der Gegenwart. 1924 als Kurt Rübner in Pressburg geboren, wuchs er mit der deutschen Sprache auf und überlebte als einziger seiner Familie den Holocaust; im allerletzten Moment gelang es ihm, mit einer Jugendgruppe nach Palästina auszureisen. In einem Kibbuz in Merchavia entstanden erste Gedichte, zunächst auf Deutsch, später in hebräischer Sprache. Tuvia Rübner ist in Israel nicht nur hoch angesehen als Dichter, sondern auch bekannt als Fotograf und emeritierter Professor für Vergleichende Literaturwissenschaft an der Universität Haifa. Mit der Verleihung des Theodor-Kramer-Preises am 16.05.2008 in Krems setzt das filmische Portrait an. Der Film begleitet Tuvia Rübner auf der anschließenden Lesereise durch Wien, Bratislava und an die umliegenden Orte seiner Kindheit und Jugend, Salzburg, München und Baden Württemberg bis nach Israel. Der Film setzt sich mit dem Thema auseinander, wie geschmeidig ist der Mensch. Wie schnell vergisst er? Und wie lange dauert es, bis er in einer neuen Katastrophe sich selbst wieder gegenübersteht?
