Description

The Angelitera association wants to stage the play "Der Flüchtling", this rarely performed play by Fritz Hochwälder. The author Fritz Hochwälder was born in 1911 in Vienna as the son of a Jewish master paperhanger. In 1938, after the "Anschluss" of Austria, he fled through the Rhine and swam to Switzerland. His parents were deported to Poland in 1942 and found death in the gas chambers there. First Fritz Hochwälder was taken to a labour camp in Tessin. He was subsequently granted asylum in Switzerland. Fritz Hochwälder lived in Zurich for 45 years, where he died in October 1986. His play "Der Flüchtling" (The Refugee) is characterised by his dramatic escape and is a mixture of historical tragedy and problem drama. It was premiered in 1943 in Biel-Solothurn.

Das Schauspiel „Der Flüchtling“, dieses selten gespielte Stück von Fritz Hochwälder, will der Verein Angelitera zur Aufführung bringen. Der Autor Fritz Hochwälder wurde 1911 als Sohn eines jüdischen Tapezierermeisters in Wien geboren. 1938, nach dem „Anschluss“ Österreichs, flüchtete er durch den Rhein schwimmend in die Schweiz. Seine Eltern wurden 1942 nach Polen deportiert und fanden dort in den Gaskammern den Tod. Zunächst wurde Fritz Hochwälder im Tessin in ein Arbeitslager gebracht. In der Folge wurde ihm dann in der Schweiz Asyl gewährt. Fritz Hochwälder lebte 45 Jahre in Zürich, wo er im Oktober 1986 starb. Sein verfasstes Theaterstück „Der Flüchtling“ ist geprägt von seiner dramatischen Flucht und ist eine Mischung aus historischer Tragödie und Problemdrama und wurde 1943 in Biel-Solothurn uraufgeführt.
