Lhotsky Film wanted to produce educational films about symbols for use in school lessons – in line with the principle of intercultural learning. Religious education teacher RR. Dr. Karl-Richard Essmann had been using educational films by the applicant in his lessons for years and required films on symbols of the world religions. They want to begin with a film on symbols in Judaism. Taking the Star of David as an example (crest of David, named after King David), young people were to be made aware of the way in which the religious symbol was degraded to a “yellow patch” during the National Socialist era and became the symbol of the newly established State of Israel in 1948. Symbols are identifiers of a greater reality. They are signs of a universal language which trigger an abundance of interpretations, associations and emotions. The film could be used in the subjects: Ethics and Religious Education, Art Education and German and in elementary school in general knowledge lessons.

Lhotsky Film möchte für den Einsatz im Unterricht – nach dem Unterrichtsprinzip: interkulturelles Lernen – Lehrfilme über Symbole herstellen. Religionspädagoge RR Dr. Karl-Richard Essmann setzt seit Jahren Bildungs-Filme des Antragstellers in der Lehrerfortbildung und im Unterricht ein und hat Bedarf an Filmen über Symbole der Weltreligionen. Beginnen wollen sie mit einem Film über Symbole im Judentum. Am Beispiel des Davidsterns (Schild Davids, benannt nach König David) soll den Jugendlichen bewusst gemacht werden, wie das religiöse Symbol in der Zeit des Nationalsozialismus zum „Gelben Fleck“ degradiert wurde und 1948 zum Kennzeichen des neu gegründeten Staates Israel wurde. Symbole sind Erkennungszeichen für eine größere Wirklichkeit. Sie sind Zeichen einer universellen Sprache, die beim Betrachter eine Fülle von Deutungen, Assoziationen und Emotionen auslösen. Der Film ist einsetzbar in den Fächern: Ethik und Religion, Bildnerische Erziehung, Deutsch und in der Grundschule im Sachkundeunterricht
