The project was dedicated to investigating the Jewish community in Simmering. The book was primarily intended to be a social history of the Jewish community in Simmering, where the author drew on material he was able to locate in archives both in Austria and abroad as well as on newspaper announcements, literature and similar finds. He received particularly important information by making contact with the few surviving Jewish Simmeringers and their descendents throughout the world. They sent him valuable documents, photos, letters and autobiographical texts. The resulting book is a mainly chronological portrayal of the development of the Jewish community from the first mention of a Jew on the territory of the present 11th District in the early 14th century to the fates of the few who returned after the Shoah.

Das hier vorgelegte Projekt widmet sich der Erforschung der jüdischen Gemeinde Simmering. Das Buch versteht sich in erster Linie als Sozialgeschichte der jüdischen Gemeinde Simmering, wobei sich der Autor auf Material stützte, das er in in- und ausländischen Archiven ausfindig machen konnte, sowie auf Zeitungsmeldungen, Literatur und ähnlichen Funden. Besonders wichtige Informationen brachten ihm die Kontaktaufnahme mit den wenigen überlebenden Simmeringer Jüdinnen und Juden und ihren Nachkommen in aller Welt. Von ihnen erhielt er wertvolle Dokumente, Fotos, Briefe und autobiographische Texte. Das so entstandene Buch ist einerseits eine mit einigen Ausnahmen chronologisch gegliederte Darstellung der Entwicklung der jüdischen Gemeinde von der ersten Erwähnung eines Juden auf dem Gebiete des heutigen 11. Bezirkes Anfang des 14. Jahrhunderts bis zum Schicksal der wenigen Rückkehrer nach der Shoah.
