Project

Description

At the invitation of the Leopoldstadt District Museum, the association Maezenatentum will curate the next special exhibition Musica Femina Vienna. Starting with contemporary artists, the focus will be on composers who were ostracised by the Nazis. A brochure, guided tours for children and young people and regular concerts are planned. The installation of digital, audio and video documents as well as sculptural and textual modules is dedicated to composers in the context of music history in general, with a focus on Vienna and in particular on the artists living and working in Leopoldstadt. The work of the association concerns both the design of the special exhibition space and the intervention in the permanent exhibition of the Jewish section. Based on the design of the Stones of Remembrance, brass-coloured square objects made of cardboard hang from the ceiling, on which the names and biographical data of the Jewish and Nazi-ostracized composers in Leopoldstadt are listed. On the floor is a carpet of sheet music from the works of ostracised composers. To the left and right of it are two shadowy cardboard figures, in the back of which a small desk for a tablet is integrated, on which a moving presentation allows the life stories and music of the composers to be heard. The tablets are equipped with headphones. The exhibition covers female musicians who had their last place of accommodation in the second district collection camps, who performed here or who spent part of their lives in the second district.
