Georg Stefan Troller, born in Vienna on 10 December 1921, has worked for many decades as a documentarian, writer, television journalist, screenwriter and director. Aside from his brief visits to his native city, Vienna lost the "poet of the documentary" in 1938. His emigration to the United States and his return to Europe as a U.S. soldier during World War II led him, after years of study in the U.S., to the city of Paris, where he has lived and worked for decades, with an American passport and a view towards Vienna. The path he sought and found in his professions was "healing through others," as he calls it. He had lost himself through flight and displacement and found healing primarily through work, through photography and as a filmmaker. His "becoming human through others" is a central theme in his life, as is bearing witness for generations to come. It is in the sense of this radiance that his life's work is to be understood and has an effect on his film audience. Due to his intensive work over decades, especially with German TV stations, a large number of documentaries are available, which for decades have been repeatedly and today continue to be presented to the public in cinemas. A small selection from this treasure trove of films is, among other things, the focus of this cinema documentary. Excerpts of his films become visible as part of this documentary. Interviews with Georg Stefan Troller provide information about his approach as a filmmaker.

Georg Stefan Troller, geboren am 10.12.1921 in Wien, arbeitet seit vielen Jahrzehnten als Dokumentarist, Schriftsteller, Fernsehjournalist, Drehbuchautor und Regisseur. Abgesehen von seinen Kurzbesuchen in seiner Geburtsstadt hat Wien den „Dichter des Dokumentarischen“ bereits im Jahr 1938 verloren. Seine Emigration in die USA und seine Rückkehr nach Europa als US-Soldat im Zweiten Weltkrieg führte ihn, nach Studienjahren in den USA, in die Stadt Paris, wo er seit Jahrzehnten lebt und arbeitet, mit amerikanischem Pass und Blick nach Wien. Den Weg, den er in seinen Berufen suchte und fand, war „Heilung über andere“, wie er es nennt. Durch die Flucht und Vertreibung hatte er sich selbst verloren und fand Heilung vor allem durch die Arbeit, durch die Fotografie und als Filmemacher. Seine „Menschwerdung über andere“ ist ein zentrales Thema in seinem Leben, ebenso wie Zeugnis abzulegen für die nächsten Generationen. Im Sinne dieser Strahlkraft ist sein Lebenswerk zu begreifen und wirkt auf sein Filmpublikum. Aufgrund seiner intensiven Arbeit über Jahrzehnte, vor allem mit deutschen TV-Sendern, liegt eine große Zahl an Dokumentarfilmen vor, die aktuell und seit Jahrzehnten immer wieder in Kinos dem Publikum präsentiert werden. Eine kleine Auswahl aus diesem Filmschatz ist unter anderem der Fokus dieses vorliegenden Kinodokumentarfilms. Es werden Ausschnitte seiner Filme als Bestandteil dieses Dokumentarfilms sichtbar. Interviews mit Georg Stefan Troller geben Aufschluss über seine Herangehensweise als Filmemacher.
