After the death of her mother, director Elizabeth Lennard found a suitcase with documents and letters from her Jewish grandmother Rosa (Rösl) while cleaning out the basement. Among the documents were letters from a former neighbor describing the Nazi era from an Austrian perspective, but also her own letters to Rösl from her childhood were stored inside. Elizabeth Lennard was born and raised in the USA, has been living and working in Paris for a long time, and in "Rösl's Suitcase" will trace history as it was experienced by her family during the Nazi era in Austria with a view "from the outside".

Nach dem Tod ihrer Mutter fand die Regisseurin Elizabeth Lennard beim Ausräumen des Kellers einen Koffer mit Dokumenten und Briefen der jüdischen Großmutter Rosa (Rösl). Unter den Dokumenten sind auch Briefe einer ehemaligen Nachbarin, die die NS-Zeit aus österreichischer Sicht beschreibt, aber auch ihre eigenen Briefe an Rösl aus ihrer Kindheit waren darin aufgehoben. Elizabeth Lennard ist in den USA geboren und aufgewachsen, lebt und arbeitet seit Langem in Paris und wird bei „Rösl’s Suitcase“ mit einem Blick „von außen“ der Geschichte, die ihrer Familie während der NS-Zeit in Österreich widerfahren ist, nachspüren.
