From 23 November to 3 December 1941, over 6,000 Viennese Jews were deported to Riga. The deportations took place from the Aspang railway station in Vienna and ended for most people with their shooting in the forest of Biekerniki near Riga. To mark the 80th anniversary of these terrible events, a commemorative ceremony will be held by the German Riga Committee in Riga on 23 November. The City of Vienna has been a member of the German Riga Committee for twenty years. In order to remind as many people as possible of these terrible events, the planned exhibition will be shown at Vienna Central Station in cooperation with the Austrian Federal Railways.

Vom 23. November bis 3. Dezember 1941 wurden über 6.000 jüdische WienerInnen nach Riga deportiert. Die Deportationen erfolgten vom Aspangbahnhof in Wien und endeten für die meisten Menschen mit deren Erschießung im Wald von Biekerniki nahe Riga. Aus Anlass der 80. Wiederkehr dieser schrecklichen Ereignisse wird am 23. November eine Gedenkveranstaltung des Deutschen Rigakomitees in Riga stattfinden. Die Stadt Wien ist seit zwanzig Jahren Mitglied im Deutschen Rigakomitee. Um möglichst viele Menschen an diese schrecklichen Ereignisse zu erinnern, wird die geplante Ausstellung in Kooperation mit den Österreichischen Bundesbahnen auf dem Wiener Hauptbahnhof gezeigt werden.
