Stars have always shaped the theatre world as an integral part of this genre. This also applies to the Viennese entertainment theatres in the interwar period, when people sought distraction after the misery of the First World War and projected their desires and hopes onto the revered and beloved stars. Some are still known today, like the tenor Richard Tauber, for whom Franz Lehár created many legendary Tauber songs. Many, however, are forgotten, especially women who enchanted as divas on operetta stages and thrilled as diseuses in the wide-ranging cabaret scene. Entertainment and operetta in particular were characterized by an above-average number of Jewish artists in front of and behind the stage. Success was also in the hands of the performers, many of whom were of Jewish origin and most of whom have been completely forgotten today. The aim of the research project is to trace the lives of these divas and to bring them back on stage with their repertoire. The orchestra Divertimento Viennese with its artistic director Vinzenz Praxmarer has established itself as a special ensemble for the music of the 1920s and 1930s. The young community of musicians goes in search of traces of the sound of light music of the 1920s and 1930s. The historian Marie-Theres Arnbom summarises all the research results in a comprehensive publication.

Immer schon prägen Stars die Theaterwelt als integrativer Teil dieses Genres. Dies gilt auch für die Wiener Unterhaltungstheater in der Zwischenkriegszeit, in der die Menschen nach dem Elend des Ersten Weltkrieges Ablenkung suchten und ihre Wünsche und Hoffnungen auf die verehrten und geliebten Stars projizierten. Manche kennt man noch heute, wie den Tenor Richard Tauber, für den Franz Lehár viele legendäre Tauber-Lieder schuf. Viele jedoch sind vergessen, vor allem Frauen, die als Diven auf Operettenbühnen verzauberten und als Diseusen in der breit gefächerten Kabarettszene begeisterten. Gerade die Unterhaltungskunst und die Operette waren geprägt von überdurchschnittlich vielen jüdischen KünstlerInnen vor und hinter der Bühne. Der Erfolg lag auch in der Hand der InterpretInnen, auch sie in einem großen Ausmaß jüdischer Herkunft und heute zum Großteil völlig vergessen. Ziel des Forschungsprojekts ist es, das Leben dieser Diven nachzuzeichnen und sie mit ihrem Repertoire wieder auf die Bühne zu bringen. Das Orchester Divertimento Viennese mit seinem künstlerischen Leiter Vinzenz Praxmarer hat sich als Spezialensemble für die Musik der 1920er- und 1930er-Jahre etabliert. Die junge Musikergemeinschaft begibt auf Spurensuche nach dem Klang der Unterhaltungsmusik der 1920er- und 1930er-Jahre. Die Historikerin Marie-Theres Arnbom fasst alle Forschungsergebnisse in einer umfassenden Publikation zusammen.
