Description

The aim of the project is to process, secure and make accessible the estate of Maria Stromberger and to publish her biography. The nurse Maria Stromberger (1898–1957) came from Carinthia, lived for almost ten years in Styria and from 1937 for the most part in Bregenz. From 1942 to 1945, she was a head nurse in the SS precinct in Auschwitz, saved many prisoners there, was an active member of the resistance movement, smuggled weapons and cassettes into the camp, and also maintained contact with the resistance in Austria on behalf of Hermann Langbein.

Ziel des Projekts ist die Aufarbeitung, Sicherung und Zugänglichmachung des Nachlasses von Maria Stromberger und eine Publikation ihrer Biografie. Die Krankenschwester Maria Stromberger (1898–1957) stammte aus Kärnten, lebte fast zehn Jahre in der Steiermark und ab 1937 größtenteils in Bregenz. Von 1942 bis 1945 war sie Oberschwester im SS-Revier in Auschwitz, hat dort viele Häftlinge gerettet, war aktives Mitglied der Widerstandsbewegung, hat Waffen und Kassiber ins Lager geschmuggelt und im Auftrag von Hermann Langbein auch Kontakt zum Widerstand in Österreich gehalten.
