Since 1991, RE.F.U.G.I.U.S., the Rechnitz Memorial Initiative, has been working to preserve the Kreuzstadl in Rechnitz as a place of remembrance for the victims of the Kreuzstadl massacre in March 1945. In these 30 years, the association has expanded the Kreuzstadl memorial into a place of remembrance. Now maintenance work and technical renovations have become necessary, which must be carried out urgently in order to preserve the memorial and to be able to commemorate the memory of all victims at the Southeast Wall in a dignified manner.

Seit dem Jahr 1991 setzte sich RE.F.U.G.I.U.S., die Rechnitzer Gedenkinitiative, dafür ein, dass der Kreuzstadl in Rechnitz als Gedenkort für die Opfer des Kreuzstadlmassakers im März 1945 erhalten bleibt. In diesen 30 Jahren hat der Verein das Mahnmal Kreuzstadl zu einer Gedenkstätte erweitert. Nun sind Instandhaltungsarbeiten und technische Erneuerungen notwendig geworden, die dringend durchgeführt werden müssen, um die Gedenkstätte erhalten und das Gedenken für alle Opfer beim Südostwallbau würdig begehen zu können.
