Nine Holocaust survivors from the USA, Israel, England, Argentina and Australia return to the scenes of their childhoods 70 years later – back to Vienna. They go to those places which shaped their identity and are indelibly imprinted in their minds. Otto Deutsch, Erika Freeman, Yosef Friedlander, Max Lerner, Kurt Löwy, Lucie & Peter Paul Porges, Gertrude Rothschild and Kurt Sonnenfeld are wise and happy people whose personal stories of survival move, encourage and serve as a warning. The nine protagonists of the film “Coming home” are “last witnesses”. They survived the National Socialist regime and today, in their twilight years, want to pass on their stories so that “something like this can never happen again” and also be able to close this chapter of their lives. The documentary “Coming home” is a contemporary document in which the survivors accompany their viewers on a disturbing and moving, sad and entertaining journey through their special lives and characters between the past and present.

Neun österreichische Holocaust-Überlebende aus den USA, aus Israel, England, Argentinien und Australien kommen 70 Jahre danach an die Schauplätze ihrer Kindheit – nach Wien zurück. Sie gehen an jene Orte, die ihre Identität geprägt und sich unauslöschlich eingebrannt haben. Otto Deutsch, Erika Freeman, Yosef Friedlander, Max Lerner, Kurt Löwy, Lucie & Peter Paul Porges, Gertrude Rothschild und Kurt Sonnenfeld sind weise, lebensfrohe Menschen, deren ganz persönliche Überlebens-Geschichten berühren, mahnen und Mut machen. Die neun Protagonisten der Film-Doku „coming home“ sind „Letzte Zeugen“. Sie haben das NS-Regime überlebt und wollen heute – an ihrem Lebensabend - zum einen ihre Geschichte weitergeben, damit „so etwas nie wieder passieren kann“, zum anderen dieses Kapitel ihres Lebens „abschließen“. Die Film-Doku „coming home“ ist ein Zeitdokument, in dem die Überlebenden den Zuseher durch ihre besonderen Lebenswege und Charaktere auf eine verstörende wie berührende, traurige wie unterhaltsame Reise zwischen Vergangenheit und Gegenwart mitnehmen.
