Description
The Festival of Joy has a thematic focus every year – in 2022 it is political resistance against the Nazi regime. Official Austria takes a clear position: 8 May is a day of joy for the end of Nazi rule in Europe and is dedicated to the memory of the victims of the policy of persecution and extermination. In the last nine years, more than 128,000 visitors and virtual participants from Austria and abroad at the “Festival of Joy” sent a strong signal for the establishment of a dignified commemoration of 8 May as Liberation Day.

Das Fest der Freude widmet sich jedes Jahr einem thematischen Schwerpunkt – 2022 ist es der politische Widerstand im Nationalsozialismus. Das offizielle Österreich bezieht eine klare Position: Der 8. Mai ist ein Tag der Freude über das Ende der NS-Herrschaft in Europa und ist dem Gedenken an die Opfer der Verfolgungs- und Vernichtungspolitik gewidmet. In den letzten neun Jahren setzten mehr als 128.000 BesucherInnen und virtuelle TeilnehmerInnen aus dem In- und Ausland beim „Fest der Freude“ ein starkes Zeichen für die Etablierung eines würdigen Gedenkens am 8. Mai als Tag der Befreiung.
