Description

The book was produced in parallel with the film "Trilogy of Forgetting". As in the film, the filmmaker also explores in the prose texts and some illustrations the question of what the Holocaust did to his own life, and what it did to society, as far as he was able to observe this himself, mostly from behind the camera, on some 25 research trips over two and a half decades. In any case, the trips took Alexander Melach to the concentration camp memorials Auschwitz, Buchenwald, Ravensbrück, Sachsenhausen, Bergen-Belsen, Dachau, Mauthausen and to Hartheim Castle and various subcamps on the 50th, 60th and 70th anniversaries of the liberation, as well as to Israel and Bratislava, to Graz and to several other places where contemporary witnesses were invited or visited for personal visits and in-depth interviews in their "everyday lives of survival", outside of the memorial setting.
