In April 1941, 50 Carinthian Sinti, many of them from Villach, were arrested by the criminal investigation department, handed over to the Linz criminal investigation department in Upper Austria and sent to the “Gypsy” detention camp in Weyer/Gemeinde St. Pantheon. After the camp was dissolved in November 1941, all 301 prisoners were deported to the Lodz ghetto in Poland, where a separate "Gypsy” camp had been set up. Following the dissolution of this camp in January 1942, the survivors were deported to Chelmo extermination camp and murdered. In October 1941, 65 more Sinti, almost all of them from the Seebach district, were arrested by police detectives. On 31 October 1941 they were sent to Lackenbach camp. Only a few of the people concerned survived the Nazi regime. Many of the Villach Sinti died at Auschwitz-Birkenau. The project involves extensive research. How it was possible for centuries-old hatred that vacillated between fascination and contempt to lead to merciless persecution and murder whose reprecussions are still felt today is the subject of the research.

Im April 1941 wurden 50 Kärntner Sinti, darunter viele aus Villach, von der Kriminalpolizei verhaftet, an die Kripo Linz in Oberösterreich übergeben und von dieser in das „Zigeuneranhaltelager“ Weyer/Gemeinde St. Pantheon eingeliefert. Nach Auflösung des Lagers im November 1941 deportierte man alle 301 Häftlinge nach Polen in das Ghetto von Lodz, wo ein eigenes „Zigeunerlager“ eingerichtet worden war. Die Überlebenden wurden nach der Auflösung dieses Lagers im Jänner 1942 in das Vernichtungslager Chelmo deportiert und ermordet. Im Oktober 1941 waren 65 weitere Sinti, fast durchweg aus dem Stadtteil Seebach, von der Kripo verhaftet und am 31. Oktober 1941 in das Lager Lackenbach eingeliefert worden. Nur wenige betroffene Menschen überlebten die NS-Herrschaft. Viele der Villacher Sinti starben im Vernichtungslager Auschwitz-Birkenau. Das Projekt ist mit umfangreichen Recherchen verbunden. Wie es möglich wurde, dass jahrhundertealter Hass in einem Spannungsverhältnis von Faszination und Verachtung bis hin zur gnadenlosen Verfolgung und Ermordung führen konnte und bis heute nachwirkt, ist Thema der Recherchen.
