Ruth Maier was born in Vienna in 1920 and fled to Norway in January 1939. In 1942 she was arrested for being Jewish and murdered in Auschwitz. Her surviving diaries and letters have formed part of UNESCO's Memory of the World since 2014. In Norway, the girl’s fate became a symbol of the collaboration of parts of the Norwegian population with the German occupiers. The travelling exhibition has been adapted and displayed in Vienna, Oslo and other Norwegian cities, at the United Nations in New York and Washington, and in Brno in 2021. In 2022, an adaptation of the exhibition in simple language will be developed in cooperation with the Viennese Adult Education Centres (business area “Adult Education Initiative”), which will be accompanied by a special educational programme from late autumn 2022. The exhibition is aimed at people who are just learning German or people with learning difficulties

Ruth Maier wurde 1920 in Wien geboren und floh im Januar 1939 nach Norwegen. 1942 wurde sie als Jüdin verhaftet und in Auschwitz ermordet. Ihre erhalten gebliebenen Tagebücher und Briefe sind seit 2014 Teil des UNESCO-Weltdokumentenerbes (Memory of the World). In Norwegen wurde das Schicksal des Mädchens zum Symbol der Kollaboration von Teilen der norwegischen Bevölkerung mit den deutschen Besatzern. Die konzipierte Wanderausstellung wurde in jeweiligen Adaptionen mittlerweile in Wien, Oslo und anderen norwegischen Orten, bei den Vereinten Nationen in New York und in Washington sowie 2021 in Brünn gezeigt. In einer Kooperation mit den Wiener Volkshochschulen (Geschäftsbereich „Initiative Erwachsenenbildung“ - IEB) wird 2022 eine Adaptierung der Ausstellung in einfacher Sprache erarbeitet, der ab Spätherbst 2022 ein spezielles Vermittlungsprogramm zur Seite gestellt werden soll. Die Ausstellung richtet sich an Personen, die gerade Deutsch lernen, oder auch Menschen mit Lernschwierigkeiten.
