The Cold Gaze

Project

Description

The aim of the presentation of the show in Tarnów is, firstly, to sharpen the view of scientific crimes under the Nazi regime. Secondly, it provides a concrete insight into Nazi persecution and extermination policy in the occupied Eastern Territories. The "cold gaze" of the scholars involved is contrasted with the perspective of Holocaust survivors, who provide a "counter-view". The exhibition documents the ambitious actions of the two female scholars, Dora Maria Kahlich and Elfriede Fliethmann, which were directed against the male domain in their field; it also tells of the life of the Jews in Tarnów before 1939 and their murder under Nazi rule as an example of the persecution and extermination of hundreds of Jewish communities in Nazi-ruled and terrorised Poland.
