The project presents the history of the spa town of Baden during the Nazi era. The geographical focus is not limited to the metropolitan area, the district of Baden is also included at certain points. The focus is on the history of events as well as individual aspects such as the extermination of Baden’s Jewish community, forced and foreign labour or the Nazi structures in the city and surrounding area. The spa aspect also plays an important role. This gives Baden a historical unique selling point in comparison to other cities and municipalities. In addition to this characteristic, Baden had the third largest Jewish community and, as the largest town in the district (and district capital), was administered by the Christian Socials (i.e. conservative faction), while the surrounding area was mostly socialist. A unique feature of the book is that numerous previously unpublished sources have been included. It contains correspondence of individual Nazi authorities and actors, denazification files and personnel files that were created under Nazi rule.

Dargestellt wird die Geschichte der Kurstadt Baden während der NS-Zeit. Den geografischen Raum bildet nicht nur das Stadtgebiet, der Bezirk Baden wird ebenso punktuell eingebunden. Im Fokus steht die Ereignisgeschichte sowie einzelne Aspekte wie z.B.: die Vernichtung der jüdischen Gemeinde Badens, Zwangs- und Fremdarbeit oder die NS-Strukturen in Stadt und Bezirk. Weiteres bildet der Kur-Aspekt eine wichtige Rolle. Damit haben wir ein gewisses geschichtliches Alleinstellungsmerkmal Badens im Vergleich mit anderen Städten und Gemeinden. Neben diesem Charakteristikum kommt noch hinzu, dass Baden die drittgrößte jüdische Gemeinde aufwies und als größte Stadt des Bezirks (Bezirkshauptstadt) christlichsozial verwaltet wurde, während das Umland zumeist sozialistisch geprägt war. Ein Alleinstellungsmerkmal des Buches ist, dass zahlreiche bisher noch nicht publizierte Quellen einbezogen worden sind. Dabei handelt es sich um Korrespondenz einzelner NS-Behörden und Akteure, Entnazifizierungsakten oder Personalakten, die noch während der NS-Herrschaft erstellt wurden.
