Zwei Gedenkveranstaltungen der Israelitischen Kultusgemeinde Wien/Jugendkommission

 

On the memorial trip to Mauthausen on 8 May 2023, the Youth Commission of the Jewish Community Vienna will provide buses for young people to take part in the general memorial rally of the Mauthausen camp community. In addition, there will be an organised tour of the museum and the former Mauthausen concentration camp. Jewish youths prepare intensively for weeks and jointly create a ceremony, which they then hold in front of the Jewish memorial. The ceremony includes self-written poems, speeches, music, media presentations and memoirs of Holocaust victims. Especially the latter is important to the young people, as they are aware that they will probably be the last generation to hear them and pass them on to the next generation. This year, the focus is on another project. As already announced last year at the ceremony, the memorial for the murdered Jewish children, located at the beginning of the “Todesstiege” (staircase of death) at the Mauthausen memorial, is to be extended. With the commemorative march “Light of Hope”, the Jewish youth of Vienna will create a light of hope for the future on 9 November 2023 on the occasion of the November pogroms of 1938.

Anlässlich der Gedenkfahrt nach Mauthausen am 8. Mai 2023 stellt die Jugendkommission der Israelitischen Kultusgemeinde Wien Busse für Jugendliche zur Verfügung, um an der allgemeinen Gedenkkundgebung der Lagergemeinschaft Mauthausen teilzunehmen. Darüber hinaus findet eine organisierte Besichtigung des Museums und des ehemaligen Konzentrationslager Mauthausen statt. Jüdische Jugendliche bereiten sich wochenlang intensiv vor und gestalten gemeinsam eine Zeremonie, welche dann von ihnen vor dem jüdischen Mahnmal abgehalten und moderiert wird. Die Zeremonie beinhaltet selbstgeschriebene Gedichte, Redebeiträge, Musikstücke, mediale Darstellungen sowie Memoiren von Holocaust-Opfern. Vor allem Letzteres ist den Jugendlichen ein wichtiges Anliegen, da ihnen bewusst ist, dass sie wahrscheinlich die letzten Generation sein werden, die diese noch hören und an die nächste Generation weitergeben können. Dieses Jahr steht ein weiteres Vorhaben in Mittelpunkt. Wie bereits letztes Jahr bei der Zeremonie angekündigt, soll das Mahnmal für die ermordeten jüdischen Kinder, welches sich am Beginn der Todesstiege der Gedenkstätte Mauthausen befindet, erweitert werden. Mit dem Gedenkmarsch "Light of Hope" entzündet die jüdische Jugend Wiens am 9. November 2023 anlässlich der Novemberpogrome von 1938 ein Licht der Hoffnung für die Zukunft.
