Publikation "Alltag – Erinnerung – Aufarbeitung an der Universität Wien. Historische Wissenschaften im Austrofaschismus, Nationalsozialismus und in der Nachkriegszeit"

 

In May 2022, the historical institutes of the University of Vienna erected a memorial for the students and teachers who were displaced by the Nazis and are now reflecting on the historical sciences, their institutes, actors (teachers and students), structures and networks of the 1930s to 1960s. As a contribution to the development and processing of their own subject and university history, the contributions focus on continuities and breaks in employees, research methods and teaching content, as well as on questions of “perpetrator/victim roles” in science and university life and everyday university life. On the basis of recent cross-institutional research, the historical sciences and institutes will be critically examined in connection with Austrofascism, Nazism and during the long post-war years at the University of Vienna: How did they shape or were they shaped by the university and society? How has this been reflected in the university's culture of remembrance and commemoration in historical scholarship? The publication shall also be included in future research and teaching at the University of Vienna.

Die historischen Institute der Universität Wien haben im Mai 2022 ein Denkmal für die NS-vertriebenen Studierenden und Lehrenden errichtet und reflektieren nun die historischen Wissenschaften, ihre Institute, Akteur*innen (Lehrende und Studierende), Strukturen und Netzwerke der 1930- bis 1960er-Jahre. Als Beitrag zur Auf- und Bearbeitung der eigenen Fach- und Universitätsgeschichte stehen neben Kontinuitäten und Brüchen bei Beschäftigten, Forschungsmethoden und Lehrinhalten die Fragen nach "Täter-/Opferrollen" im Wissenschafts- und Universitätsbetrieb sowie der universitäre Alltag im Fokus der Beiträge. Anhand neuerer, institutsübergreifender Forschungen sollen die historischen Wissenschaften und Institute im Zusammenhang mit Austrofaschismus, Nationalsozialismus und während der langen Nachkriegsjahre an der Universität Wien kritisch hinterfragt werden: Wie haben sie Universität und Gesellschaft geprägt bzw. wurden von ihr geprägt? Wie hat sich dies im Rahmen universitärer Erinnerungs- und Gedenkkultur der Geschichtswissenschaft niedergeschlagen? Die Publikation soll künftig auch in Forschung und Lehre der Universität Wien einbezogen werden.
