Description
“March of the Living” 2023 has been repeated annually since 1988. It leads from Auschwitz to Birkenau and is a commemorative and educational project that brings youth and students from all over the world to Poland and Auschwitz, uniting them to learn more about the history of the Holocaust and its roots, and to remember the victims. This march takes place annually on “Yom Hashoah”, Holocaust Remembrance Day, and is a silent tribute to all victims of the Holocaust. The March of the Living is intended to be a clear contrast to the death marches at the end of the Second World War. The project does not only involve participation in the march but is a holistic Holocaust education programme. This educational programme includes preparatory workshops that will serve as a historical, content-related and emotional foundation. At the end of the project, group meetings and reflection discussions take place following the return home.

"March of the Living" 2023 wiederholt sich jährlich seit 1988, führt von Auschwitz nach Birkenau, ist ein Gedenk- und Bildungsprojekt, welches Jugendliche und Studierende aus der ganzen Welt nach Polen und Auschwitz bringt, um dort vereint mehr über die Geschichte des Holocaust und ihre Wurzeln zu erfahren und der Opfer zu gedenken. Dieser Marsch findet jährlich am "Yom Hashoah", dem Holocaust-Gedenktag, statt und ist ein stiller Tribut an alle Opfer des Holocaust. Der "March of the Living" soll einen klaren Kontrast zu den Todesmärschen Ende des Zweiten Weltkriegs darstellen. Das Projekt besteht nicht nur aus der Teilnahme am Marsch, vielmehr ist es ein gesamtheitliches Holocaust-Education-Programm. Dieses Bildungsprogramm beinhaltet Vorbereitungs-Workshops, welche als historische, inhaltliche und emotionale Grundlage dienen sollen. Zum Abschluss des Projektes finden nach der Rückkehr Gruppentreffen und Reflexionsgespräche statt.
