Description
The project aimed to research and document the Jewish cemetery of Wiener Neustadt. The Jewish cemetery is a “symbol of remembrance” and its 208 headstones “silent witnesses of time”. This place tells of the life of the Jewish population and its death, of its history and of expulsion. In view of the historical importance of the Jewish population of Wiener Neustadt (both in the Middle Ages and the 20th century) this project enabled the establishment of an educational and memorial site. With the necessary development of the relevant tools (book, homepage, educational and teaching materials) it was possible to establish an educational and memorial site within the cultural and educational establishment.

Das Projekt dient der Erforschung und Dokumentation des jüdischen Friedhofs von Wiener Neustadt. Der jüdische Friedhof ist ein „Erinnerungssymbol“ und seine 280 Grabsteine sind „stumme Zeugen der Zeit“. Dieser Ort erzählt vom Leben der jüdischen Bevölkerung und ihrem Tod, von ihrer Geschichte und der Vertreibung. Mit diesem Projekt soll angesichts der historischen Bedeutung der jüdischen Gemeinde von Wiener Neustadt (sowohl im Mittelalter als auch im 20. Jahrhundert) die Errichtung einer Lern- und Gedenkstätte ermöglicht werden. Mit der notwendigen Entwicklung entsprechender Vermittlungsgrundlagen (Buch, Homepage, pädagogisch-didaktisches Material) ist eine Etablierung als Lern- und Gedenkstätte innerhalb des Kultur- und Bildungswesens realisierbar.
