The Homosexual Initiative (HOSI) Vienna commemorates Ruth Maier with the naming of the library on 24 October 2023. Ruth Maier was born on 10 November 1920 in Vienna, was able to flee to Norway in January 1939, was arrested in Oslo on 26 November 1942, taken by ship to Stettin and from there to Auschwitz, where she was murdered upon arrival on 1 December 1942. Ruth Maier wrote diaries, prose texts, poems, song texts and letters, which were selected and edited by Jan Erik Vold and published in Norwegian in 2007 and in German in 2008. In the context of the naming of the library, the exhibition “The Short Life of Ruth Maier. Vienna - Oslo - Auschwitz” by the Documentation Centre of Austrian Resistance and the Norwegian Centre for Holocaust and Minority Studies will be displayed. In a further exhibition, female artists will be exploring Ruth Maier – a contemporary examination of the person, the diarist/literary writer and the artist Ruth Maier.

Mit der Bibliotheksbenennung am 24. Oktober 2023 gedenkt die Homosexuelle Initiative (HOSI) Wien der Ruth Maier. Ruth Maier wurde am 10. November 1920 in Wien geboren, konnte im Jänner 1939 nach Norwegen fliehen, wurde in Oslo am 26. November 1942 verhaftet, mit den Schiff nach Stettin und von dort nach Auschwitz verbracht, wo sie nach ihrer Ankunft am 1. Dezember 1942 ermordet wurde. Ruth Maier schrieb Tagebücher, Prosatexte, Gedichte, Liedtexte und Briefe, die, ausgewählt und herausgegeben von Jan Erik Vold, 2007 auf Norwegisch und 2008 auf Deutsch erschienen sind. Im Kontext der Bibliotheksbenennung wird bis 1. Dezember die Ausstellung „Das kurze Leben der Ruth Maier. Wien – Oslo – Auschwitz“ des Dokumentationsarchivs des österreichischen Widerstandes und des norwegischen Zentrums für Holocaust- und Minderheitenstudien gezeigt. In einer weiteren Ausstellung setzten sich Künstlerinnen mit Ruth Maier auseinander – eine gegenwärtige Auseinandersetzung mit der Person, der Tagebuch Schreibenden/Literatin bzw. der Künstlerin Ruth Maier.
