Expropriations before the "aryanizations"

In recent decades, historiography has portrayed the basic details of every expropriation of property from Austrian Jews which were processed as “aryanizations” after the establishment of the Property Transaction Office in Vienna in May 1938. In contrast, the aggregate of the confiscations or seizures carried out in early 1938 by the National Socialists and/or by organs of the executive formed an insufficiently researched area. The gap was closed with the present project.

In den letzten Jahrzehnten hat die Historiographie in den Grundzügen jene Enteignungen des Besitzes österreichischer Juden und Jüdinnen dargestellt, die als „Arisierungen“ nach der Einrichtung der Vermögensverkehrsstelle in Wien im Mai 1938 abgewickelt wurden. Dagegen bildet der Komplex der im Frühjahr 1938 in Österreich von Nationalsozialisten und/oder von Organen der Exekutive vorgenommenen „Beschlagnahmungen“ bzw. „Einziehungen“ einen nur unzulänglich erforschten Bereich. Diese Lücke soll mit dem vorliegenden Projekt geschlossen werden.
