Description

With its project “living with the enemy”, the ZPC School of the Jewish Community Vienna wanted to form a very special cooperation between the Jewish private high school and two public Viennese high schools. Within the scope of the project, Freddie Knoller, born 1921 in Vienna, told senior students of three Viennese high schools (BG/BRG Pichelmayrgasse, pRG Simon-Wiesenthal-Gasse and GRG Anton Baumgartnerstraße) of his life as a Viennese Jew in the pre-war years, of the “Anschluss” his flight through Europe, his deportation to Auschwitz, the death march, the concentration camps Mittelbau-Dora and Bergen-Belsen, his work as a translator in the US Army, his move to the USA and finally of starting a family in Great Britain.

Die ZPC Schule der Israelitischen Kultusgemeinde Wien möchte mit dem Projekt „Living with the Enemy“ eine Zusammenarbeit der besonderen Art zwischen dem jüdischen Privatgymnasium und zwei öffentlichen Wiener Gymnasien begründen. Im Rahmen des Projekts wird Freddie Knoller, geb. 1921 in Wien, in drei Wiener Gymnasien, BG/BRG Pichelmayrgasse, pRG Simon-Wiesenthal-Gasse und GRG Anton Baumgartnerstraße vor SchülerInnengruppen der Oberstufe über sein Leben als Wiener Jude in der Vorkriegszeit, den Anschluss, seine Flucht quer durch Europa, seine Deportation nach Auschwitz, den ""Todesmarsch"", das KZ Mittelbau-Dora und Bergen-Belsen, seine Arbeit als Übersetzer in der US-Army, seine Übersiedlung in die USA und schließlich seine Familiengründung in Großbritannien erzählen.
