The present edition is a compilation of the contributions of 18 prominent academics at an international, interdisciplinary conference of the Bruno Kreisky Forum for International Dialogue in June 2008 in Vienna. Commemoration ceremonies, questions of guilt, of justice and legitimization as well as forms of restitution were compared, analyzed and discussed with regard to their functions, aims and consequences. In doing so, their specific national contexts of origin and importance were examined.

Die vorliegende Ausgabe fasst die Beiträge 18 prominenter Gelehrter einer internationalen, interdisziplinären Konferenz des Bruno Kreisky Forums für internationalen Dialog im Juni des Jahres 2008 in Wien zusammen. Gedenkfeiern, Fragen der Schuld, der Gerechtigkeit und der Legitimation wurden, genau wie auch Formen der Restitution, in Bezug auf ihre Funktionen, Ziele und Auswirkungen verglichen, analysiert und diskutiert, wobei auf ihre spezifischen nationalen Kontexte der Entstehung und der jeweiligen Bedeutung eingegangen wurde.
