This is a testimonial of a unique variety in the tragic history of Jews in the 20th century. Sara Rus is an Auschwitz survivor and mother of a son who “vanished” in Argentina during the military dictatorship of 1976–1983. Sara comes from Poland. She was 12 years old who the Nazis destroyed her perfect world. She lived with her family under terrible circumstances in the Lodz ghetto until she was deported to Auschwitz-Birkenau in July 1944. On 5 May 1945 – for her a “magical” date – she was liberated from Mauthausen. After many wrong turns – among others a year in Berlin – in 1948 she arrived with her husband in Argentina, hoping for a better life. This deep desire was destroyed by the terrorism of the Argentine military dictatorship: her son Daniel, a highly gifted physicist “vanished” in 1977 in front of his office, shortly before the end of his 27th year.

Dies ist das Zeitzeugnis einer einzigartigen Variante der tragischen Geschichte der Juden im 20. Jahrhundert. Sara Rus ist Auschwitz-Überlebende und Mutter eines Sohnes, der in Argentinien während der Militärdiktatur 1976-1983 „verschwand“. Sara stammt aus Polen. Sie war 12 Jahre alt, als die Nazis in ihre heile Welt einbrachen. Unter den schrecklichsten Umständen lebte sie mit ihrer Familie im Ghetto Lodz, bis sie im Juli 1944 nach Auschwitz-Birkenau deportiert wurde. Am 5. Mai 1945 – für sie ein „magisches“ Datum – wurde sie in Mauthausen befreit. Nach vielen Irrwegen – unter anderem ein Jahr in Berlin – kam sie 1948 mit ihrem Ehemann nach Argentinien, in der Hoffnung auf ein besseres Leben. Diesen innersten Wunsch machte die argentinische Militärdiktatur mit ihrem Terrorismus zunichte: ihr Sohn Daniel, hochbegabter Physiker, „verschwand“ 1977 vor der Tür seines Arbeitsplatzes, kurz vor der Vollendung seines 27. Geburtstages.
