In 2006, the Documentation Centre of Austrian Resistance received the file holdings of the late lawyer Dr. Hugo Ebner to safeguard them and scientifically evaluate them. The law firm in which Dr. Hugo Ebner worked with various partners specialized in the representation of National Socialism persecutees, primarily emigrants, i.e. Jews who had fled Austria. The enormous holdings comprise around 7,000 files, from which not only the story of expulsion can be gathered but also the details of their lives and circumstances and the educational and professional careers of those affected before and after their flight, as many of the cases related to pensions. A quantifying analysis and evaluation of the holdings offers a unique chance to shed light on the social backgrounds, ruptures in the lives of the persecutees as a result of their flight, gender-specific aspects of survival in the receiving country and the post-war story of exile, using a relevant sample – around 5 % of those exiled from Austria were represented by this law firm.

Im Jahr 2006 erhielt das DÖW einen Aktenbestand des verstorbenen Rechtsanwalts Dr. Hugo Ebner zur Aufbewahrung und wissenschaftlichen Bearbeitung. Die Kanzlei, in der Dr. Hugo Ebner mit verschiedenen PartnerInnen zusammenarbeitete, hatte sich unter anderem auf die Vertretung von NS-Verfolgten spezialisiert, und zwar in erster Linie von EmigrantInnen, d. h. aus Österreich vertriebenen Jüdinnen und Juden. Der enorme Bestand umfasst ungefähr 7000 Akten, aus denen nicht nur die Vertreibungsgeschichte, sondern auch Einzelheiten der Lebensumstände und der Ausbildungs- und Berufslaufbahn der Betroffenen vor und nach der Flucht hervorgehen, da sich zahlreiche Fälle auf Pensionsangelegenheiten beziehen. Eine quantifizierende Aufarbeitung und Auswertung des Bestandes bietet die einmalige Chance, anhand einer relevanten Stichprobe – es handelt sich dabei um rund 5 % der aus Österreich Vertriebenen – den sozialen Hintergrund, lebensgeschichtliche Brüche infolge der Flucht, genderspezifische Aspekte des Überlebens im Zufluchtsland und die Nachkriegsgeschichte der Vertreibung herauszuarbeiten.
