Description

The multi-faceted and magnificent province between the Dachstein mountain range in the south, Böhmer Woods in the north, the Innviertel in the west and the Enns estuary in the east was Hitler's homeland. The exiled poet Carl Zuckmayer called the Innviertel "Hitler's breeding ground" - and from hindsight, it seems uncanny how closely Upper Austria binds the fates of Nazi criminals such as Eichmann or Kaltenbrunner with those of the exiled, the concentration camp inmates in Mauthausen and its satellite camps or with the resistance fighters.
