Die wichtigste soziale und kulturelle Instanz der Roma war immer die Großfamilie. Durch Deportation und Vernichtung ganzer Sippen und Clans wurden ihre Lebensgewohnheiten, ihre Traditionen - die der Alltagskulturen, zu denen das Kochen zu zählen ist - ebenso zerstört wie durch den Assimilationsdruck danach. Der große Verlust so vieler Menschen wirkt nachhaltig auf die Strukturen, in denen Wissen und Fertigkeiten ausschließlich mündlich weiter gegeben wurden. Über den vielfältigen Verlust der traditionellen Alltagskultur der Roma wird sichtbar, wird deutlich, dass der kulturelle Genozid der Nationalsozialisten auch Jahrzehnte nach Ende dieser Schreckensherrschaft wirkt. Im folgenden Buch werden ältere Frauen mit jüngeren Frauen kochen und in Form von frei gestalteten Interviews über die Vergangenheit berichten. Die Küche und das Kochen, als Ort der traditionellen Kommunikation zwischen Frauen.
