Lion Feuchtwanger would have turned 125 in 2009. In order to safeguard the memory of the life and work of the writer and of the artists forced into exile by the National Socialists, since 2001 the International Feuchtwanger Society, based in Los Angeles, has been organizing bi-annual interdisciplinary conferences, the presentations, discussions and research results of which are published and sold internationally in the "Feuchtwanger Series". The 4th conference of the IFS was taken to Vienna in 2009. The present volume unites current approaches to exile research and their discussion by international exile researchers. The publication is not an anthology of the contributions to the conference but offers a contextualization and discussion of the research results from individual projects presented at the conference.

Lion Feuchtwangers Geburtstag jährt sich 2009 zum 125. Mal. Um die Erinnerung an Leben und Werk des Schriftstellers und die Exilsituation der von den Nationalsozialisten vertriebenen Künstlerinnen zu bewahren, organisiert die Internationale Feuchtwanger Gesellschaft mit Sitz in Los Angeles seit 2001 zweijährlich interdisziplinäre Konferenzen, deren Präsentationen, Diskussionen und Forschungsergebnisse in der Reihe der Feuchtwanger Studies publiziert und international verbreitet werden. Die 4. Konferenz der IFS konnte im Mai 2009 nach Wien geholt werden. Der nun konzipierte Band vereint aktuelle Ansätze der Exilforschung wie ihre Diskussion in der internationalen Exilforschung. Die Publikation ist kein Sammelband der Konferenzbeiträge, sondern bietet eine Kontextualisierung und Diskussion der auf der Konferenz vorgestellten Forschungsergebnisse aus Einzelprojekten.
