The Viennese artist Soshana was born in Vienna in 1927 and had to leave her homeland with her parents in 1938 due to National Socialism. Their route first took them to London, then New York and Havana. Using the life story of the painter Soshana, the film reflects the chequered history of the 20th century. The film aimed to promote remembrance of the inhumanity of a totalitarian regime and the ability to surmount and come to terms with this time through the fine arts.

Die Wiener Künstlerin Shoshana wurde 1927 in Wien geboren und musste 1938 aufgrund des Nationalsozialismus mit ihren Eltern die Heimat verlassen. Ihr Weg führte sie zunächst nach London, später nach New York und Havanna. Der Film spiegelt an Hand der Lebensgeschichte der Malerin Soshana die bewegte Geschichte des 20. Jahrhunderts wider. Eines der Ziele des Filmes ist einerseits die Erinnerung an die Unmenschlichkeit eines totalitären Regimes und auf der anderen Seite die Überwindung und Bewältigung dieser Zeit mit den Mitteln der bildenden Kunst.
