In 1938, Bruno Schwebel, born in Vienna, fled with his parents, active Social Democrats, via France and Portugal to Mexico. The family was persecuted on both racial and political grounds. Bruno Schwebel is as strongly connected to Austria as to his new homeland. In his book, he offers a portrayal of flight and exile from a teenager’s perspective and of his life as an experienced writer.

Bruno Schwebel, geboren in Wien, flüchtete 1938 mit seinen Eltern, aktiven Sozialdemokraten, über Frankreich und Portugal nach Mexiko. Die Familie wurde sowohl aus rassischen als auch aus politischen Gründen verfolgt. Bruno Schwebel ist Österreich und seiner neuen Heimat gleichermaßen stark verbunden. In seinem Buch bietet er eine Darstellung von Flucht und Exil aus der Sicht eines Heranwachsenden und über sein Leben als bereits erfahrener Schriftsteller.
