This book traces the history of the wealthy, successful and influential Jewish community of Döbling, an upmarket district of Vienna, which reflected the glamour and splendour of the capital city and the monarchy. It chronicles their rise to become the ruling elite who dominated political, financial, and cultural life, until their downfall. However, after a brief century of unprecedented prosperity, their lives were shattered by the Nazi seizure of power. Almost overnight, they were stripped of their humanity and dignity, and like all Jews, they were doomed to extermination. However, their path to survival was as unique as their lives.

Dieses Buch zeichnet die Geschichte der wohlhabenden, erfolgreichen und einflussreichen jüdischen Gemeinde von Döbling, dem Nobelviertel von Wien, nach, die Glanz und Glamour der Hauptstadt Wien und der Monarchie widerspiegelte. Die Chronik beschreibt ihren Aufstieg zur herrschenden Elite, die das politische, finanzielle und kulturelle Leben bis zu ihrer Zerstörung dominierte. Nach einem kurzen Jahrhundert beispielloser Blütezeit wurde ihr Leben durch die Machtergreifung der Nationalsozialisten zerrüttet. Fast über Nacht wurden sie ihrer Menschlichkeit und Würde beraubt und waren wie alle Jüdinnen und Juden zur Vernichtung bestimmt. Doch so einzigartig ihr Leben war, so einzigartig war auch ihr Weg zum Überleben.
