Description
On 10 December 2025, the House of Austrian History will open a historical and artistic exhibition entitled 'What Remains?', featuring 67 embroidered photographs. The images commemorate the 67 residents of the St Josef 'sanatorium and nursing home' in Mils, Tyrol, who were deported to Hartheim on 10 December 1940 as part of 'Aktion T4' and murdered there.
As part of the project, photographer and artist Ulrike Wieser has reproduced photos of the victims and embroidered their backgrounds in bright colours to symbolise the lives they could have lived. The embroidered photographs will form the centrepiece of the exhibition, which will be on public display in the foyer of the House of Austrian History.

Am 10. Dezember 2025 wird im Haus der Geschichte Österreich die historisch-künstlerische Ausstellung „Was bleibt?“ eröffnet, in der 67 bestickte Fotografien gezeigt werden. Mit diesen Bildern wird der 67 Bewohner:innen der „Heil- und Pflegeanstalt“ St. Josef in Mils in Tirol gedacht, die am 10. Dezember 1940 im Rahmen der „Aktion T4“ nach Hartheim deportiert und dort ermordet wurden. Im Zuge des Projekts reproduziert die Fotografin und Künstlerin Ulrike Wieser Fotos der Ermordeten und bestickt deren Hintergrund in bunten Farben – symbolhaft für das Leben, das möglich gewesen wäre. Die bestickten Fotografien bilden die Leitobjekte der historisch-künstlerischen Ausstellung und erhalten im Foyer des Haus der Geschichte Österreich einen öffentlich sichtbaren Ort.
