Description

Franz Höllering's 'The Defenders' was published in New York in 1940. Shortly after the liberation, the novel, which deals with the Austrian February Uprising, was also published in German (Die Verteidiger) by Europa-Verlag. Little is known about Höllering, the Austrian who became an influential journalist in Berlin during the Weimar Republic before being forced to flee in 1933. Franz Höllering returned to Europe in 1953 and settled in Munich. The novel and its author were subsequently forgotten. The Theodor Kramer Society has published a new edition of the novel, with the aim of making an important work of Austrian literary exile accessible once again.

in German:
1940 erschien Franz Höllerings „The Defenders“ in New York.
