Description
The project will examine the role of museums in the Nazi era, exploring the themes of complicity and resistance, in two events. The first event will focus on the Nazi looting of art objects in France and will be based on the book Rose Valland and the Love of Art by Jennifer Lesieur.
The book will be discussed at the event.
The second event is based on Franz Wanner's artistic research practice and deals with collective ignorance surrounding the extent, dimensions, and structures of Nazi forced labour. It specifically questions the profits made by museums and institutions in Nazi successor states, as well as the associated continuities up to the present day.

In zwei Veranstaltungen widmet sich das Projekt der Rolle von Museen im Nationalsozialismus zwischen Komplizität und Widerstand. Die erste Veranstaltung nimmt anhand des Buches „Rose Valland und die Liebe zur Kunst“ von Jennifer Lesieur die nationalsozialistischen Plünderungen von Kunstgegenständen in Frankreich in den Blick. Bei der Veranstaltung wird das Buch besprochen und diskutiert. Die zweite Veranstaltung auf Basis von Franz Wanners künstlerisch forschender Praxis beschäftigt sich mit dem kollektiven Unwissen über das Ausmaß, die Dimensionen und die Strukturen der NS-Zwangsarbeit und befragt speziell den Profit von Museen und Institutionen in NS-Nachfolgestaaten und den damit verbundenen Kontinuitäten bis in die Gegenwart.
