The anti-racism simulation game "miramax". New decade new challenges

Das antirassistische Planspiel „miramix“ Neue Dekade – neue Herausforderungen

 

In 2003, the Mauthausen Committee Austria, as part of an EQUAL project, developed the anti-racism simulation game "miramix". The simulation game, which is aimed at young people aged 13 to 15 and recommended by the Federal Ministry for Education, the Arts and Culture has been employed in Austrian schools and youth groups over 6000 times since its conception. Its playful approach and the ability to be able to slip into the role of "being different" enables participants to intensively deal with the subjects of racism, xenophobia and hostility towards foreigners. Almost eight years after the conception of "miramax" it has now become apparent that changes in the target group have made it necessary to adapt and extend the concept of the game. In addition, over the years the pool of trainers has decreased in size and will be added to as part of this project by training more people. As this field has become increasingly demanding for the trainers, a handbook and an info folder will be produced for the first time, which focus on the most difficult phase of the simulation game, reflection. In addition, creative possibilities will be presented and important background information provided such as immigration statistics, social benefits in Austria, ethnic conflicts and nationalisms in a historical context and similar.

2003 entwickelte das Mauthausen Komitee Österreich (MKÖ) im Rahmen eines EQUAL-Projekts das antirassistische Planspiel „miramix“. Das Planspiel, das sich an Jugendliche der 8.-9. Schulstufe wendet und vom BMUKK für den Unterricht empfohlen wird, wurde seit der Entwicklung mehr als 600 Mal an österreichischen Schulen und in Jugendgruppen erfolgreich eingesetzt. Der spielerische Zugang und das eigene Eintauchen in die Erfahrung des „Anderssein“ ermöglichen eine intensive Auseinandersetzung mit dem Thema Rassismus, Xenophobie und Fremdenfeindlichkeit. Fast acht Jahre nachdem „miramix“ konzipiert wurde, hat sich nun gezeigt, dass Veränderungen in der Zielgruppe eine Adaption bzw. Erweiterung des Spielkonzepts nötig machen. Zudem hat sich über die Jahre der TrainerInnen-Pool verkleinert und soll im Rahmen dieses Projekts durch die Ausbildung neuer miramix-TrainerInnen wieder aufgestockt werden. Da die Anforderungen an TrainerInnen auf diesem Gebiet stark zugenommen haben, soll erstmals ein Leitfaden sowie eine Info-Mappe erstellt werden, die vor allem die schwierige Phase der Reflexion des Planspiels in den Mittelpunkt rücken. Zudem sollen Gestaltungsmöglichkeiten vorgestellt sowie wichtige Hintergründe aufgezeigt werden, wie Einwanderungsstatistik, Sozialleistungen in Österreich, ethnische Konflikte und Nationalismen im historischen Kontext und ähnliches.
