With the composition of Das alte Lied (“The Old Song”), for which Fritz Löhner-Beda wrote the lyrics, Hilde Loewe, born in Vienna in 1895, achieved international fame – albeit under her pseudonym Henry Love. Performed by stars such as Richard Tauber, Marlene Dietrich and Rudolf Schock, it thrilled audiences. Loewe, who came from a middle-class Jewish family, became known primarily as a pianist and accompanist to important artists such as Raoul Aslan, Alma Rosé and Váša Příhoda. Many of her compositions could only be attributed to her after 1945. Loewe’s tone poems were initially published under her pseudonym by the Viennese publishing house Bohéme Verlag, co-founded by Robert Stolz. As the political situation in the Austrian corporative state became increasingly difficult, she moved to Great Britain in 1934, where she continued her career as a pianist and teacher. She died in 1976.

Mit der Komposition von „Das alte Lied“, zu dem Fritz Löhner-Beda den Text verfasste, erlangte die 1895 geborene Wienerin Hilde Loewe internationalen Ruhm – allerdings unter ihrem Pseudonym Henry Love. Interpretiert von Stars wie Richard Tauber, Marlene Dietrich oder Rudolf Schock, begeisterte es das Publikum. Loewe, die aus einer gutbürgerlichen jüdischen Familie stammte, wurde vor allem als Pianistin und Liedbegleiterin bedeutender Künstler:innen wie Raoul Aslan, Alma Rosé und Váša Příhoda bekannt. Viele ihrer Kompositionen konnten ihr erst nach 1945 zugeordnet werden. Loewes Tondichtungen wurden anfangs unter ihrem Pseudonym im Wiener Bohéme Verlag, dessen Mitbegründer Robert Stolz war, veröffentlicht. Nachdem die politische Situation im österreichischen Ständestaat immer schwieriger wurde, ging sie 1934 nach Großbritannien, wo sie ihre Karriere als Pianistin und Pädagogin weiterführte. Sie starb 1976.
