In the second project phase, the focus shifts to the practical implementation of the exhibition. The former synagogue in Steyr – the only surviving synagogue building in Upper Austria to date from before 1938 – is being developed into a vibrant, permanent place of learning and remembrance. Building on the content developed in Phase 1, the team will now put the exhibition concept into practice, develop the design elements and finalise the educational formats. The aim is to create an authentic, accessible and educationally effective exhibition that brings Jewish life in the past and present to life. Interactive and multimedia elements are designed to appeal particularly to young people in schools. The exhibition has been conceived to remain flexible and can be adapted in future to include new research findings or current social developments. The opening of “The Synagogue Learning Centre” is planned for autumn 2026.

In der zweiten Projektphase rückt die konkrete Umsetzung der Ausstellung in den Fokus. Die ehemalige Synagoge in Steyr – das einzige erhaltene Synagogengebäude Oberösterreichs aus der Zeit vor 1938 – wird zu einem lebendigen, dauerhaften Ort des Lernens und Erinnerns weiterentwickelt. Aufbauend auf den in Phase 1 erarbeiteten Inhalten werden nun das Ausstellungskonzept realisiert, gestalterische Elemente ausgearbeitet und Vermittlungsformate finalisiert. Ziel ist eine authentische, barrierearme und pädagogisch wirksame Ausstellung, die jüdisches Leben in Vergangenheit und Gegenwart sichtbar macht. Interaktive und multimediale Elemente sollen insbesondere junge Menschen im schulischen Kontext ansprechen. Die Ausstellung wird so konzipiert, dass sie flexibel bleibt und künftig um neue Forschungsergebnisse oder aktuelle gesellschaftliche Entwicklungen erweitert werden kann. Die Eröffnung des „Lernort Synagoge“ ist für Herbst 2026 geplant.
