The project aims to conduct a structural analysis of the Society of Music Friends, with particular attention to the politically driven fault lines of 1938 and 1945. This analysis focuses on the interrelationships between the political and socio-cultural contexts, seeking to highlight the effects – in terms of personnel and content – of the political fault lines resulting from the creeping coup d’état of 1933–34, the “Anschluss” in 1938 and the liberation and the associated re-establishment of the Republic of Austria in 1945, in terms of their impact on personnel and content, as reflected in the Society’s activities.

Das Projekt strebt eine Strukturanalyse der Gesellschaft der Musikfreunde unter besonderer Berücksichtigung der politisch bedingten Bruchlinien 1938 und 1945 an. Diese Analyse zielt auf die Wechselbeziehungen der politischen und sozikulturellen Rahmenbedingungen, wobei die durch die politischen Bruchlinien des schleichenden Staatsstreiches 1933/34, des „Anschlusses“ 1938 und der Befreiung bzw. der damit verbundenen Wiedererrichtung der Republik Österreich 1945 in ihren Auswirkungen in personeller und inhaltlicher Hinsicht im Spiegel des Wirkens der Gesellschaft sichtbar gemacht werden sollen.
