Description
Since 1991 the Rechnitz Refugee and Remembrance Initiative (RE.F.U.G.I.U.S.) has been committed to retaining the Kreuzstadl in Rechnitz as a memorial. In March 1945, around 180 Hungarian-Jewish slave laborers were murdered nearby and cremated on the spot. There grave has still not been able to be located today. In the first phase in 2009 an open air exhibition architecture was conceived which should be permanently accessible. The final proposal for a “Kreuzstadl Museum – the southeastern rampart” is now ready.
In the second phase of the project, a place of remembrance, education and encounter will now be created. The open air exhibition architecture will be built and designed according to the plans of the artist Wolfgang Horwath.

Seit 1991 setzt sich die Rechnitzer Flüchtlings- und Gedenkinitiative (RE.F.U.G.I.U.S.) dafür ein, dass der Kreuzstadl in Rechnitz als Mahnmal erhalten bleibt. In dessen Nähe wurden im März 1945 rund 180 ungarisch-jüdische Zwangsarbeiter ermordet und an Ort und Stelle verscharrt. Deren Grab konnte bis heute nicht gefunden werden. In der ersten Phase wurde 2009 eine „open-air“ Ausstellungsarchitektur entworfen, die permanent zugänglich sein soll. Der fertige Entwurf für ein „Museum Kreuzstadl - Der Südostwallbau“ liegt nun vor. Nun wird in einer 2. Projektphase ein Gedenkort, Lernort und Begegnungsort geschaffen. Die „open-air“ Ausstellungsarchitektur wird nach vorliegenden Plänen des Künstlers Wolfgang Horwath gebaut und gestaltet.
